Resident Evil Requiem – Bonus Mode Guide “Leon Must Die Forever”
May 17, 2026The “Leon Must Die Forever” mode is a free and exciting addition to Resident Evil Requiem, transforming the gameplay experience into an intense, combat-focused roguelike challenge. In it, you take on the role of Leon S. Kennedy and must traverse various areas of the game, facing increasingly dangerous enemies and striving to defeat the final boss. It’s important to note that this mode is recommended for those who have already completed the main story, as it reuses environments and enemies, including boss encounters, which may contain significant spoilers.
UNDERSTANDING THE GAME FLOW
In this mode, you will always start on the city streets. From there, you will have the freedom to choose which area you want to go to next. This choice can be made in two ways: by completing the objectives of the current area, as you would in the main campaign, or by finding one of the special doors that will take you to the next stage. These doors are visible and indicate where each one will take you, allowing you to plan your route. The ultimate goal of each game is to reach Victor and defeat him, which will advance you to the next difficulty level.
RANDOM CHAOS
A striking feature of “Leon Must Die Forever” is its highly random nature. With each new playthrough, you’ll face different types of enemies and find varied items. Item boxes are crucial to seek out, as they usually contain random weapons. Smaller boxes may offer items such as skill slot expansions or magnum ammunition. Furthermore, virtually every defeated enemy will drop items and ammunition, usually ammo. There are also special enemy types: red enemies are resistant to ranged damage but vulnerable to melee and axe attacks, while blue enemies have high resistance but are weak to parries. Both types can drop special items and weapons, and are generally worth engaging.
FILLING THE SKILL SLOTS
One of the most important aspects of “Leon Must Die Forever” is the skill enhancement system. As you fight, an “Ability Enhancer” meter fills up. Upon reaching 100%, you can activate a button combination, usually L2 plus Triangle, to choose a new skill. The skill options are randomized, but you can spend a portion of your meter, about 20%, to reroll the options, although you may end up seeing the same choices again. Stacking skills to become stronger over time is crucial for success in this mode.
Business tips, time management.
Remember that you’re under a time limit in this mode, meaning there’s no room for standing still. However, the time isn’t as restrictive as it seems. In the early sections, it’s advisable to explore and stock up on ammo and weapons. You can also find spiders, called “Spinners,” which, when destroyed, increase your remaining time. These spiders tend to appear in the same areas in each match, so you’ll become proficient at finding them. Additionally, you can use time-granting abilities by eliminating enemies early in the match and exchange them for damage-dealing abilities later. Each time you advance to a new area, you also gain additional time. The best strategy for survival is to focus on upgrades that increase your attack power, such as “Increased Shotgun Damage” or “Increased Long Range Damage,” to become a more efficient combat machine.
CHALLENGES AND EXTRA ADVANTAGES
“Leon Must Die Forever” also uses Challenge Points to offer extra advantages. You can access them in the Special Content menu, where this mode is listed under “LMDF”. For example, you can buy the Hellblaze, a blade that sets zombies on fire, for 25,000 CP, or an RPG-7 for 35,000 CP, which can be obtained once per match. Other items include green herbs and medical injectors for recovery, as well as a briefcase upgrade to increase your inventory. There are also bonus abilities such as Aurora Spinners, which add time depending on the color, and enhancements for specific abilities such as Unyielding Judge, Lone Berserker, and Phantom Assassin, which modify Leon’s combat. Additionally, you can unlock additional Leon dialogue and accessories that alter his starting equipment and fixed abilities, such as Wolf Mode, Turbo GT, Hot Fuzz, and Axe-orcist, which are unlocked by completing the mode at different difficulty ranks. The appearance of the accessories can also be changed without altering their effects.
The mode also features a list of internal challenges, such as “Ready to Die,” which is to fail three times, “Farewell to Arms,” which is to discard a weapon, “Just Say… Yes?”, which is to refine 50 upgrades, “The Exterminator,” which is to defeat 30 Midas Spinners or Aurora Spinners, “Going Door-to-Door,” which is to use all the glowing doors, “Same City, Different Tyrant,” which is to defeat the Super Tyrant at Rank 2 or higher, “Leon’s ARK,” which is to defeat the commander at Rank 2 or higher, “Victor Must Die Now,” which is to defeat Victor at Rank 3 or higher, “Leon’s Limbo,” which is to survive for 40 minutes and defeat 110 enemies before Victor at Rank 3 or higher, “Leon’s Purgatory,” which is to defeat Victor without using slot expansions at Rank 3 or higher, and “Leon’s Inferno,” which is to inflict 5,000 damage on the Super Tyrant in a single hit. excluding RPG-7, Rank 3 or higher.
