Silent Hill 2 – Complete Walkthrough (Step by Step Guide)
April 6, 2024CITY PATH
After the initial animation ends, you will find yourself in the bathroom of a deserted gas station. Your first task is to leave this space, heading left until you see a parked car with the door open. Inside this vehicle, you will find the Silent Hill city map, an essential item for your journey.
With the map in hand, head left again, paying attention to a staircase that will lead to the city. This staircase is not difficult to find, as it is the only visible exit in this area. When you go down it, you will start a long journey until you reach a gate. This is a linear section, not requiring major detours or exploration.
Passing through the gate, you will continue your journey through the city until you reach a cemetery. At this moment, a video will be activated, introducing the character Angela. When this sequence ends, you will find yourself facing slightly to the left. Maintain your course, but make a small turn to the right.
Just next to the house ahead, you will see a gate. This is your next destination. Advance through it and continue following until you find a second gate. As you pass through this, you will find yourself on Sanders Street.
From Sanders Street, your goal will be to get to Lindsay Street. When you make the turn to enter it, another animation will be triggered. After this, continue along Lindsay Street until Vachss Road, which will be the second entrance on the right.
Follow Vachss Road, paying attention to the behavior of James, the protagonist. At a certain point, he will turn to the right, focusing on a grate with an access gate. Here, you can collect two “Health Drinks”, items that restore your health. Continue along Vachss Road until you reach its end.
At this point, a new animation will begin, and you will face your first enemy. When you defeat him, in addition to staying safe, you will collect Radio, an extremely useful object for alerting you to the proximity of enemy creatures.
After this interaction, return to Lindsay Street and head towards Saul Street. Here, you must head to the end of Martin Street. To locate it, consult the map you picked up at the beginning of the game. During this journey, you will encounter monsters, but remember that it is not necessary to confront them – escape is a valid option.
Arriving at Martin Street, look for the dead body – it has the “Apartment Gate Key”, the key you will need to proceed. With the key in hand, now follow Katz Street until you reach the “Woodside Apartments”. Consult your map if you have questions about the location.
Upon arrival at Woodside Apartments, use the key at the apartment complex gate. This gate is to James’ right, and is easy to spot as the camera will change as you approach it. After opening the gate, enter through the first door in front of you, a double door that leads inside the building. With this, you complete this phase of the game, and will be prepared to face the challenges that await you inside the “Woodside Apartment Building”.
WOODSIDE APARTMENTS BUILDING
Once inside the Woodside Apartments building, start by getting the location map, which is extremely important, and a Health Drink, which will be useful for maintaining your health throughout the game. Both items are in the building’s entrance room.
Continuing, go up the stairs to the second floor (2F) and enter the first door that appears. Turning right, follow the hallway, passing through two doors on your right, and enter the third door – which leads to room 205. In a dark room like this, any source of light is useful, so if you can find a bright spot to view the map, do this. Inside room 205, acquire the flashlight that is on the mannequin and prepare to face a monster that will appear shortly afterwards.
After facing the creature, go to room 210 (to do this, use the map to find your way). In this room, you will find ammunition for the pistol, the Handgun Bullets. After collecting them, return to the staircase and continue your climb to the third floor (3F).
Once there, try to get a key that is on the other side of the grate and watch the animation that follows. Afterwards, continue to room 301, where you will find a Handgun on a cart. At the moment, do not use it, as your Plank (piece of wood used as a weapon) is more efficient and the pistol’s bullets run out quickly.
Return to the second floor (2F) and go to room 208. There, look for a desk where you will find the room 202 key. With the key in hand, go to room 202, collect the Health Drink and the Clock key and return to room 208.
In room 208, go to the neighboring room and use the Clock key on the clock, facing it directly. Adjust the hands to read 9:10. You should hear a click signaling that something has happened. Examine the right side of the clock and confirm the option to push it, revealing a secret passage. Follow this path.
Now, you will find yourself in room 209. If you want, take the opportunity to save the game. Going out the bedroom door, you will be on the other side of the grate that previously blocked your path. Go to the door on the right that leads to another flight of stairs and go up to the third floor (3F).
Head to room 307 and, after the animation, take the Courtyard key from the closet. Leave the room and go to the left of room 301, next to the grate, to get the Fire Escape key. If you want to collect extra items, enter room 301. Then exit and head to the stairs to the right of the map. Leaving 301, turn right and follow until the last door.
Go down to the first floor (1F) and follow the hallway until you find the Canned Juice on the floor. Leave the building through the double doors (which will be locked) and go left. You will reach the door through which you initially entered the building. Enter through it and go up to the second floor (2F) again. In the room next to the stairs, where there is no door to go through, use the Canned Juice on the trash that is obstructing the path.
Return to the first floor (1F) and exit the building. Go right, just a little, and follow the small passage that opens. Examine the trash to collect the Old Man Coin and read an article. Return to the building, entering through the door on the left. In the entrance room, use the Courtyard key on the door at the bottom of the stairs.
Continue forward and then left to reach a pool. Inside, in a baby carriage, you will find the Snake Coin. It is advisable to eliminate any monsters that are nearby before approaching.
Go back to the door to the right of the one you came in (when leaving the pool, follow the straight path) and head to room 101. There, you will find Eddie. After interacting with him, return to the main building. Go up to the second floor (2F) and use the Fire Escape key on the leftmost door at the end of the hallway, next to room 201. When you use the key, you will find yourself in a new building.
BLUE CREEK APARTMENTS
When you find yourself at Blue Creek Apartments, you will initially be in one room. The first thing to do is go to the bathroom and examine the toilet. This investigation will lead you to find a safe combination, which will be of great importance.
After obtaining the combination, return to the room where you will find the safe to apply the numerical sequence obtained. It is worth noting that this sequence is random and varies from game to game. To use it correctly, start with the first number in the sequence and then use the directional pad in the direction indicated by the arrow until you reach the next number. Repeat this process until the end of the sequence. Once the safe is open, collect the available ammo.
Now, get ready to leave the room, but keep in mind that you don’t have the map of this building yet. When leaving the room, head to the first door on your right. You will find an “Exit” sign in the hallway and you must enter the door right next to this sign. In this new space, which is a staircase, take the map that is available next to you.
Once you have the map, proceed to room 109 where you can collect more ammo. Through the opposite door, an animation with Angela will begin. At the end of the animation, you will have her knife and will also be able to collect the Prisoner Coin from the desk in the room.
The next destination is room 105. There, you will find a sort of small closet with five circles. Examine it carefully, as you will have to place the coins you have collected in the correct order to open this locker. The correct order varies depending on the difficulty of the game. Here are the solutions:
- In HARD (Hard), the order is: Empty, Old Man Coin, Empty, Snake Coin, Prissoner Coin.
- In NORMAL, the order is: Empty, Old Man Coin, Prisoner Coin, Empty, Snake Coin.
- In EASY, the order is: Old Man Coin, Empty, Snake Coin, Empty, Prissoner Coin.
After placing the coins in the correct order, the cabinet will open revealing the Lyne House key. With this key in hand, return to the second floor (2F) and use it to open room 209.
Upon entering room 209, you will find a passage to room 208 via the balcony. Go through this passage, and in room 208 collect the Handgun Bullets and the Apartment Stairway key. There is also a Save point in this room. It is recommended to use it as the first boss of the game is about to appear.
After collecting all the items, exit the room and turn left. Proceed to the northernmost staircase (use the map for guidance) and use the Apartment Stairway key to open the door. On the other side of the door, you will find your first boss, the feared Pyramid Head, known as “Cabeça de Lata”. Prepare yourself for this confrontation, as it will be a tough challenge.
BOSS: PYRAMID HEAD
Your first encounter with the Pyramid Head boss may seem scary, but don’t worry, the strategy to defeat him is simpler than it seems. To begin with, it will be crucial to keep your distance and use your Handgun to fire continuous shots at him. If you hear a metallic sound after each shot, this is an indication that your shots are hitting the target. Pyramid Head can cause serious damage if it gets too close, so always keep a safe distance. To reload your weapon, the ideal is to use the Menu, this way you avoid being caught by surprise during reloading.
As the fight progresses, keep shooting until he gets a little closer. The Pyramid Head is slow to attack, so take advantage of this to get around it and keep firing. At some point, Pyramid Head will retreat and flee up the stairs. It is crucial that you DO NOT follow it. Wait until it disappears completely and the water in the area drains. Following Pyramid Head will result in certain death. Once you exit the stairs, you’ll be back on the streets of spooky Silent Hill.
On the streets of Silent Hill at night, your next destination is Rosewater Park. Use the map to orient yourself, the way there is not very complicated. However, be careful not to lose useful items along the way. During the journey, an animation involving the little girl who disturbed you at the Hotel will be activated. Continue until you reach Rosewater Park.
Once in the park, continue the search for important items. The best route to take is to enter the park and go straight, then turn to the first path on the left, follow another path, go straight and turn right, continuing straight until you find Maria. After the animation, she will join you. From there, head to the opposite side of the park to exit.
When leaving the park, turn left and go to the end of the street to find a Health Drink. Return and head opposite towards Pete’s Bowl-A-Rama. Don’t forget to pick up the Steel Pipe at Texa’s Gas Station, which will be on top of a car along the way. When you arrive at the bowling alley, enter and go through the door on the left. A new animation will be triggered involving Eddie and the little girl, called Laura. Cross the room and exit through the opposite door, and then run and exit through the same door that Laura used to exit the bowling alley.
After the conversation with Maria, follow the path she indicated. Further ahead, turn right and you will see a gate, continue and then turn left. After the animation, go through the door. You will now be in a nightclub, enter through the door and go up the stairs. When you go through another door, you will emerge into the main room of the club. Leave the club and follow the path, turning right and follow that direction until you see Laura enter the Hospital.
BROOKHAVEN HOSPITAL
When you begin your exploration of Brookhaven Hospital, look for the map that will be on your left. If you feel the need to save the game, you can do so at the Reception Office, where there is a save point. Regardless, your next objective is to reach the Document Room, and to do so, you must use the Reception Room as a passage. There, next to the typewriter, is the Purple Bull Key. Make sure to pick it up and read the newspaper near you to find out what’s going on.
Use the map to locate the staircase that leads to the second floor, 2F. Your first stop here will be the Women’s Locker Room. Examine the Teddy Bear to get the Bent Needle and, at the same time, collect the Shotgun from the closet. Next, go to the Men’s Locker Room and get the Exam Room Key. After that, go downstairs and use the key to open the Examination Room. Then go to the Doctor’s Lounge to get some Shotgun Shells.
Return to 2F and go to Exam Room 3 to get a First Aid Kit. There, you also need to examine the typewriter to get a code, which is random. Write it down, as it will be of great importance later on. Exit and go to room M2 to get the Lapis Eye Key. Don’t forget to grab the Shotgun Shells that are nearby, as you will need them for the boss in this location. In room M3, you will find ammo for the Handgun (Handgun Bullets) and a Health Drink. In room M6, there are more Shotgun Shells and another Health Drink. Collect everything as it will be useful.
Your next stop is the third floor, 3F. Go to the door that leads to the hallway with the “S” rooms. To open it, you will need a code. In Normal and Easy mode, the code is 7335, and in Hard mode, 1328. If these codes do not work, look for a memo on the Exam Room wall in 1F and write down the number.
Once in the hallway, go to room S3, where Maria will be resting. Take the Roof Key that is near it and return to the stairs. Go up to the top floor and use the key. After walking around the place, try to come back. An animation will trigger, in which Pyramid Head will throw you back to 3F, in the Special Treatment Room.
In this room, there are four doors: one that leads to the main corridor and three other parallel ones. Go to the leftmost door between the three parallels. Inside, examine the blood writing on the wall to get a second code, which is also random. Write it down.
After that, return to 2F and go visit Maria in room S3. Next, head to room S14, where you’ll find a box that needs two keys and two codes to open. Use the Lapis Eye Key and the Purple Bull Key to remove the chains. On the right padlock, use the code you got from the typewriter, and on the left padlock, use the code you read from the blood writings. When you do this, you will obtain a Hair (a piece of hair).
The next step is to go to the Shower Room and examine the hole in the middle of the room. Combine the Hair with the Bent Needle and use it to get the Elevator Key. Use the key on the nearest elevator to go down to 1F. Go to room C3, where you will find Laura in an animation. After this scene, you will be in battle against your second boss. Use the Shotgun to defeat him. Remember to move constantly to avoid the boss’s attacks and whenever possible, shoot to deal damage.
BOSS: MONKEY MEN
In the face of Silent Hill 2’s terrifying Brookhaven Hospital, you’ll face your second boss: the trio of freaks known as Monkey Men. This encounter may seem daunting due to the number of enemies, but with well-planned strategies and caution, they won’t pose too much of a challenge.
Contrary to what one might initially think, these enemies are not as fearsome as they seem. In total, you will have to deal with three of these creatures simultaneously, each of them moving independently and trying to attack you from different directions. However, your main tactic will be to maintain constant mobility to avoid being cornered and always have room to maneuver.
To deal with the Monkey Men, you must constantly run, staying as far away from them as possible. This will help prevent them from reaching you and causing damage. However, move predictably and steadily, avoiding sudden movements that could lead to mistakes.
Take every opportunity you have to attack. Whenever you have a moment to breathe, use your gun to shoot them. There’s no need to focus on a single enemy or try to aim perfectly. The strategy here is more about quantity than quality. The more shots you fire, the greater your chances of hitting and reducing the bosses’ health.
To ensure you have enough ammo, always reload your weapon through the item menu while running. This will allow you to keep your weapon ready for action without wasting time standing still to reload.
Even with all these precautions, it is possible that you could end up suffering some damage. In that case, use a Health Drink to restore your health. Keep your health status closely monitored and don’t hesitate to use healing items when necessary.
After a period of running and gunning, you will finally defeat all three monsters. After killing them, an animation will trigger, and you’ll find James back at Brookhaven Hospital, only this time, he’s not in any ordinary version of the hospital. He is in the sinister and fearsome Evil Brookhaven Hospital.
EVIL BROOKHAVEN HOSPITAL
On your journey through the terrifying universe of Silent Hill 2, you will find yourself back at Brookhaven Hospital – only this time, the hospital has transformed into a twisted, darker version of itself known as Evil Brookhaven Hospital. This place is not for the faint of heart. Every corner hides unknown horrors, but don’t despair. With courage and strategy, you can cross it safely.
You start in the garden. Through the double door you can re-enter the building. If you wish to ensure your progression, there is a Save point available. Regardless of your decision, pick up Shotgun Shells to reinforce your weaponry. Head to room C2, where you will find a First Aid Kit, an essential item to heal any damage you may suffer.
Once equipped, use the elevator to head to the second floor (2F). If you want to stock up on more Shotgun Shells, visit room M4, but be alert for the nurses roaming the area – caution is crucial. Your next stop is room M6, where you will find the Dry Cell Battery and the Basement Storeroom Key. Examine the area and also find a memo, some Handgun Bullets and another First Aid Kit.
Return to the elevator and proceed to the third floor (3F). Note the door to James’ left, marked with an image of a woman – this is a crucial visual clue to further progress. Explore room S11 to find Handgun Bullets, an Ampoule, and another important memo.
Progress towards the stairs through the Storeroom and go down to the bottom floor, the BF. Use the Basement Storeroom Key to open the door here. Inside this room, push the closet to open a new path. An animation involving Maria will trigger, after which you will find the Copper Ring on the stairs.
Returning to 3F, use the elevator to go down to 2F again. During the descent, pay close attention to the radio that starts working. On 2F, go to the Day Room and, with Maria’s help, open the fallen refrigerator to get the Lead Ring.
Return to the elevator and go back up to 3F. Now, with both rings in hand, go back to the door with the woman’s drawing and insert the rings. Go through the now unlocked door and go down the stairs.
Here, you will be faced with a long corridor that you must cross as quickly as possible. Don’t worry about Maria or the Pyramid Head that appears, your goal is survival. Near the elevator, an animation will trigger and Maria will be left behind.
After the animation, you will find a new first floor section (1F). Visit the Director’s Room to get the Hospital Key. Also take the opportunity to examine the area map. Finally, exit the same way you entered, through the hospital’s double doors.
DARK SOUTH VALE SILENT HILL
Start your journey by heading south on Carroll St., an unfamiliar and unsettling path. Continue east on Rendell St. before turning south again on Monson St. Monsters are lurking around every corner, so be prepared for any unwanted encounters. Stay vigilant, as several areas in this part of the city hide useful items for your survival.
Proceed to Saul St. and go through the gate located on the east side. Continue your walk, but if you wish, you can take a small detour to visit Neely’s Bar, where you will find a memo to help you better understand the mysteries surrounding Silent Hill.
Then head to Gonzale’s Mexican Restaurant, a somewhat quirky destination amidst the chaos of Silent Hill. To get there, head north on Neely’s St. and then east on Sanders St. Then proceed north on Lindsay St. until you find a wrench, the Wrench, and another memo in a house a just above the restaurant.
The next leg of your journey will take you back to the eerie Rosewater Park. To get there, head west on Katz St., through the gate and into the park. When you arrive, enter through the left entrance and continue straight. After a short walk, you will see a staircase on the right. Drop down and head north. Look for a statue of a woman and examine the area behind her. You will find a mound of dirt that can be excavated, revealing a hidden box. Use the Wrench to open the box and get the Old Bronze Key.
Once you have acquired the key, exit the park through the same entrance and make your way to the Silent Hill Historical Society, a crucial location for the game’s progress. To find this location, consult your map. Once there, use the Old Bronze Key to open the door near the parking lot.
SILENT HILL HISTORICAL SOCIETY
When you arrive at the Silent Hill Historical Society, you will notice a single door. Pass through it to enter a desolate exhibition space. A mysterious gap in the wall will lead you to a long, dark staircase. Going down, you will find another door to continue your journey. Inside this room, make sure to pick up the First Aid Kit to help you in the most dangerous moments.
Search the nearest door to find Handgun Bullets – a vital addition to your arsenal. After that, head to the farthest door in the room. This new area contains a mysterious hole in the ground. Don’t hesitate, jump on it. You will fall into a pit that serves as a portal to an even deeper section of the historical society.
Here, you must use the Steel Pipe – an item you previously collected at the gas station – or the Plank, a piece of wood you acquired at the beginning of the game. Examine the wall until James, your character, notices that one section is different from the others. When this happens, use your weapon to knock down the wall and open a new path.
Go right to find a locked door. However, an adjacent door will be open, leading you to another room. There, you will find a hole in the floor that needs to be opened. Look for the nearest door and enter to obtain the Spiral-Writing Key.
A particularly terrifying challenge reveals itself when your flashlight battery runs out and the door you entered through locks behind you. Use the Dry Cell Battery you picked up at Brookhaven Hospital to recharge your flashlight. Head to the control panel next to the door. Here, you will have to solve a puzzle involving three lighted buttons. Your goal is to figure out the correct sequence to open the door, and you can only press each button once on each attempt. Once you solve the puzzle, you will hear a sound indicating that the door has been unlocked. Get out quickly before the insects that appear harm you.
Now, go to the metal grates and use the Spiral-Writing Key to open the trapdoor. Jump through the hole once more. When you fall, you will be transported to a new area of horror: Toluca Prison.
TOLUCA PRISON
When you arrive at Toluca Prison, immediately run to the nearest door. Here, you’ll meet Eddie, one of the game’s intriguing characters, in an animated cutscene. After that, be sure to search the room to collect useful items, including the Pig Tablet, vital to the game’s progress. Exit through another door and turn right, running to the second table to get the map. Even though the room names are not mentioned, it will still be useful for navigating the prison.
Advance a little and enter the first door on the right that you find on the map. Here, you’ll find a shower to the north that contains the Seductress Tablet. Then, use the map to go to the hallway below, which has several small rooms that are actually prison cells. Take a careful look, but watch out for monsters. In one of the open cells, you will find the Wax Doll. Exit through the door on the right (east) and head to the cell corridor to the north. Search the cells again to find the Opressor Tablet.
Return to the previous hallway and go to the room located between the two cell hallways. Here, you will find Rifle Shells. Exit and enter the room in front of you, which is the largest room on the map, located to the right of the hallway. Continue forward until you find a “platform”. Combine the three Tablets you collected and use them. After a man shouts, collect the Horseshoe from the door before heading back.
Return to the left side of the prison, preferably through the northernmost cell corridor. Enter the second-to-last room on the left on the map to collect an item. Exit and enter the next door (the last one on the left on the map). Going through this passage will take you to the westernmost corridor. Enter the room on the right to get the Lighter.
In the hallway, examine the doors on the left to find a room containing the Hunting Rifle. Keep going south until you find a closed grate. Before going through it, you have the option to enter the door to James’ left to save your game. Go through the grate and use the Wax Doll, Lighter and Horseshoe on the trapdoor in the floor to open a new passage.
Toluca Prison is not over yet. Follow the only open door and continue your path until you find another hole. Jump into it and continue until you find an elevator. Collect the items on the floor and don’t worry – the elevator will start to descend automatically. If you want, save your game, as the next area is a maze with no map, and it’s easy to get lost.
MAZE
After descending in the elevator, you find yourself in the Labyrinth. Here, the first thing that will catch your attention is a door blocked by wires, a barrier that you need to overcome. To do this, you will need to find a tool capable of cutting through these obstacles.
Turn left and go straight, ignoring the first entrance on the right. When you come to a fork, choose the right path. Continue forward, down the stairs and forward until you find a set of stairs that will take you back up. This will lead you to a peculiar room, containing a cube with distinct faces in the center.
This is another of Silent Hill 2’s haunting puzzles. Examine the cube to be able to manipulate it. Although it seems random and varies depending on the difficulty of the game, the following solution may work: turn the cube so that the face with green eyes is facing forward and upside down. The face on the left of the cube must also be turned upside down. After arranging the faces, move away from the cube and a new passage should appear. Through it, a new door should appear. Otherwise, return to the cube and keep rotating until the door appears.
After solving the puzzle, an animation will occur with Maria, who appears to be alive. Now her goal becomes to reach her. Return to the cube room and grab the Wire Cutter from a power panel on the wall. Go back to the door blocked by the wires and use the Wire Cutter to open the way.
Going down the stairs and going straight, take the first entrance on the right. Climb the stairs and go forward until the next fork, choosing the right again, and go down another staircase. Take the left path and follow it until another entrance appears on the left. Climb this ladder, but be careful as you are now in a round room and may end up returning to where you came from by mistake.
Continue until you find a fork. Turn right and, at the next fork, turn left, going down the stairs. Keep going forward and enter the first entrance on the left, going up the stairs. Stay on the straight path, going down a staircase, then turn left at the first opportunity and go up another staircase.
Finally, you will reach a room with an opportunity to save your game. Follow the hallway until you hear a terrifying scream. Enter the door on the left to find Angela and face a new boss.
BOSS: DOOR BOSS
Facing the Door Boss doesn’t have many secrets. The key to victory is to keep your distance while unloading a barrage of shots from your Shotgun at him. Keep moving constantly, making large circles around the boss. Avoid being cornered against the wall as this can make it difficult to escape his attacks. Remember to reload the Shotgun via the menu whenever you have a break to ensure you can fire without interruption.
Although the Door Boss may seem threatening, the strategy is simple: keep your distance, run and shoot. However, be aware of your health. The Door Boss is capable of causing considerable damage, being able to kill your character with just three or four successful hits.
After defeating this opponent, it’s time to move on to the next challenge.
The Enigma of the Statues
Back in the hallway, enter the first door you find. You will come to a room with six statues. Examine each of them to understand their positions. The statue you should worry about varies depending on the difficulty level you’re playing:
- Easy Mode: Pay attention to the position of the Kidnapper (Kidnapper).
- Normal Mode: Focus on the Arsonist’s position.
- Hard Mode: Pay attention to the Counterfeiter’s position.
Once you have memorized the position of the relevant statue, leave the room and head down the hallway to the next door on the left. This room houses six gallows. Pull the gallows rope that corresponds to the position of the statue you memorized earlier – that of the innocent criminal.
Return to the statue room and, in the place of the innocent criminal’s statue, you will find the “Persecuted Key”. Pick it up and return to the hallway.
Head to the only door you haven’t explored yet, located next to the gallows room. Here, you will find Maria’s cell, but now she is dead. After the animation, continue through the gate and you will be in a cemetery.
In this eerie location, collect the Shotgun Shells scattered throughout the terrain and, if you wish, save your progress in one of the graves near the open tombs. Locate the largest open tomb on the left and jump into it.
Be prepared for another boss fight: Eddie. Equip your Hunting Rifle, as the next confrontation promises to be intense.
BOSS: EDDIE
The confrontation with Eddie is, first and foremost, a battle of endurance and speed. His ability to deliver precise and incessant shots makes him a formidable opponent, and his attacks are inescapable. Therefore, his strategy should be to stay fast and minimize the damage suffered.
Start the confrontation with Eddie by unloading all four ammo from your Rifle while standing still. Once you run out of bullets, quickly open the menu to reload. Eddie will probably be able to hit you at this point, so take the opportunity to regain energy with a Health Drink. Stay still and shoot again. Eddie will run into an adjacent room.
In this room, collect all available ammunition, recover energy if necessary and reload your Rifle. Get ready for the next phase of the confrontation.
After a brief animation, you’ll find Eddie hiding behind a piece of meat. Reload your weapon and recover energy again. Run towards Eddie to force him to flee. Be careful, as Eddie can counterattack with kicks.
At this stage, the goal is to find a position from where you can safely hit Eddie. Hit him with two or three more shots, and the enemy will fall. With Eddie defeated, head forward through the large double doors in sight.
Sailing across the Lake
Leaving the maze, go forward. If you feel the need, save your game in the barrel ahead. Then board the boat.
Your objective here is simple, but it can be a little confusing if you don’t pay attention to the animation that precedes the lake tour. The trick is to turn right until you line up with a light in the distance. Then, move forward until the next animation.
Be aware that in Hard mode the boat controls can be more complicated, making navigation more challenging – but definitely not impossible. After this journey, you will finally arrive at the Lake View Hotel. Here, the truth about what is really happening in Silent Hill will begin to unravel.
LAKE VIEW HOTEL
Entering the Hotel
When you arrive, go up the stairs and turn right to find the Little Mermaid Box in a fountain. Return and enter the hotel. Upon entering, turn left to find the hotel map, which will make navigation significantly easier. Then head to the Lake Shore Restaurant. After a revealing animation involving Laura, collect the Fish Key on the table.
Check the small stairwell door hidden behind a nearby door. Go down to B1F and try to get into the Venus Tears Bar. It will be locked, but near the elevator there is a Thinner Can that you should get before returning to 1F.
In the Lobby room, enter the door next to the service desk to obtain the Room 312 Key. Then, return to the Lobby and go to the bookcase at the bottom of the stairs. Here, you will come across a puzzle that involves fitting the music boxes (Little Mermaid Music Box, White Snow Music Box and Cinderella Music Box) into the correct places. The solution varies depending on the difficulty chosen. Save the boxes for later, when they are all collected.
Discovering the Room 204 Key and the Cinderella Music Box
Go up the stairs and go right, through the door, until you reach the Cloak Room. Use the Fish Key to open the suitcase and get the Room 204 Key. Collect all the items available in the room and head to room 204. There, find the Employee Elevator Key and use it to cross the hole to the adjacent room.
In room 202, examine the photos on the bed to find one stained with paint. Use the Thinner Can to clean the stain and discover a code, which must be used on the briefcase next to it, to obtain the Cinderella Music Box.
Navigating the Hotel and Collecting the Snow White Music Box
Go back to the Lobby and, still upstairs, go to the other door on the left. Go through the white door and enter the room next to the elevator using the Employee Elevator Key. There, you will find a Save and an elevator. When entering the elevator, an alarm goes off and the buttons don’t work. Exit the elevator and go to the next closet to leave all your items, including the photo and letter. Re-enter the elevator, which will now run smoothly, and go to 1F.
When you get down, grab another hotel map and go to the Pantry Room to find the Snow White Music Box on a desk.
Collecting the Video Tape, Can Opener, Light Bulb and Bar Key
Head to the Office to collect the Video Tape and Can Opener. Use the map to find the stairs and go down to B1F. In the Boiler Room, be careful with the monsters. On your right, pick up a key, the Bar Key. Then go to the Kitchen and turn right to find an unlabeled can. Use the Can Opener to open the can and get the Light Bulb.
Exit through the other kitchen door to reach the bar. Near the jukebox, use the Light Bulb on the lantern on the counter. Leave the bar using the Bar Key. You will be back where you found the Thinner. Return to the room where you left your items and retrieve everything.
Solving the Music Box Puzzle
Return to the Lobby to solve the music box puzzle. The order of the boxes varies depending on the difficulty of the game:
- EASY: Place any box anywhere.
- NORMAL: From left to right – Cinderella, Snow White, Little Mermaid.
- HARD: From left to right – Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Snow White.
Solving the puzzle earns you the Hotel Stairway Key. Go to 2F, then use the Hotel Stairway Key to access 3F. Go directly to room 312 and use the Video Tape on the VCR next to the television. Watch the film for a series of surprising revelations. After the animation, you will notice that the hotel has changed significantly, setting the stage for the challenges to come.
EVIL LAKE VIEW HOTEL
2F and Finding Room 19
Start by going to 2F, specifically the Reading Room. Here, you will find some headphones. Examine them and listen to the mysterious sound they transmit. After that, go back to the hallway and head to the elevator that hasn’t been used yet. Take the elevator and go down to room 202. Somehow, you’ll emerge into room 19, a distorted representation of space that illustrates the hidden darkness of Silent Hill. Run back to the elevator and go down to B1F.
B1F and Collect Supplies
In B1F, enter the bar and run to the end of the room, towards the Kitchen. On the way, make sure you collect 5 Health Drinks that are near the exit. Once in the kitchen, search and grab some Shotgun Shells and Rifle Shells. The next destination is the Employee Stairs, the only door that is open in this hallway. After a touching animation involving Angela, exit the stairs and you will notice that the environment has changed drastically.
Return to 1F and head to the Manager’s Office to collect more Rifle Shells. Then, enter through the other door which, surprisingly, is unlocked. When navigating these corridors, it is crucial that you conserve ammo and avoid unnecessary confrontations with monsters. You’ll need all the ammo you can save for the upcoming final boss battles.
At the end of the hallway, you’ll find a double door and a Save. It is highly recommended that you save your progress at this point, as the next battle is against the hardest boss in the game. However, if you are well equipped, this should not be a significant problem. The weapon of choice for these final battles should be the Hunting Rifle, as it is the most powerful and effective against the enemies you are about to face.
After getting ready, open the double doors to witness yet another animation, this time featuring Maria meeting her end. This marks the start of the fight against the two Pyramid Heads.
BOSS: TWO PYRAMID HEADS
In combat against the two Pyramid Heads, it is necessary to have a well-planned strategy. The key to victory is to stay calm, shoot strategically and keep moving. Shoot two or three times, then run to a far corner of the room. As the Pyramid Heads get closer, stop shooting and run to the other corner.
Throughout this cycle, it’s a good idea to reload your weapon while running to the corners, taking advantage of the game’s menu to avoid wasting time. Make sure to maintain your character’s health to the maximum by using Health Drinks and Ampoules. Ampoules are particularly useful as they provide temporary invulnerability for about ten seconds.
In this fight, you don’t need to worry about which of the Pyramid Heads you’re hitting, as the damage is cumulative for both. Once you’ve inflicted enough damage, these menacing monsters will eliminate themselves, freeing you from their torments.
Collecting Eggs and Opening the Doors
After the Pyramid Heads are defeated, approach the fallen bodies and collect the Scarlet Egg and Rusty Egg. With these items in hand, go to the two existing doors. Place the Scarlet Egg in the right door and the Rusty Egg in the left door. After placing the eggs, you can go through any of the doors, your choice will not influence the outcome of the story.
Road to the Final Showdown
Now, take the only path available and cross the hallway. During this journey, you will hear disturbing dialogue from Mary. This interaction can have an impact on the final outcome of the game, but this will be explained in another part of the guide.
At the end of the hallway, open the door and start climbing the stairs. Before continuing, take a break to recover your health and reload your weapon.
BOSS: DEMON MONSTER
Although the Demon Monster may seem scary, with the right strategy, the battle shouldn’t be overly difficult. The initial strategy is similar to previous boss fights: stay mobile, fire when the opportunity arises, reload during moments of movement, and above all, mind your own business.
However, this fight presents a new challenge: dangerous butterflies that the creature releases. These insects can cause serious problems, especially in Hard mode. Whenever the butterflies get close, do your best to dodge them as they can cause significant damage and make you miss opportunities to shoot the Demon Monster.
Use the Hunting Rifle to inflict significant damage. You should be able to unload the rifle’s five bullets before the creature gets too close. However, be cautious, as if the monster touches you, it can cause serious damage.
If your rifle runs out of ammo, switch to the Shotgun. The Shotgun allows you to shoot faster compared to the rifle and gives you more time to escape the approaching creature.
Always recharge through the game menu, and constantly pay attention to your health. If the Demon Monster or butterflies hit you, drink a Health Drink or use a First Aid Kit to restore your health.
Taking Down the Monster and Celebrating Victory
After landing enough shots at the Demon Monster, it will eventually fall. However, before you start celebrating, fire one more shot at the creature to ensure that it has truly met the end it deserves. This is the celebratory shot, a way to seal her victory over the terror of Silent Hill.
With the Demon Monster fallen, now it’s time to relax and enjoy the ending you’ve achieved. The journey in Silent Hill 2 may have been intense and full of scares, but in facing and overcoming each challenge, you demonstrated bravery and resilience, characteristics worthy of any true horror survivor. Congratulations on overcoming the horrors of Silent Hill and beating the game.
ALL GAME ENDINGS
Silent Hill 2 is a complex and immersive game that offers up to five different endings depending on the actions the player chooses during the course of the game. Each ending provides a unique interpretation of the story, deepening the rich narrative and character complexities. Let’s dive into each of these possible conclusions in detail.
- “In Water” – This ending is obtained by performing some specific actions during the game. You will need to examine the knife belonging to the character Angela several times. Then, carefully read the diary found on the hospital roof. Finally, be sure to listen to the headphone tape located in the Reading Room at the Lake Side Hotel, reality-warped version of Silent Hill (Evil Lake Side Hotel).
- “Leave” – This ending is activated when interacting privately with Maria. You need to hurt her a few times, but without killing her. Use Plank to do this, or try to collide with her while running. Try to minimize the time spent with Maria, quickly separating from her in room S3 at the hospital. Avoid delays, as prolonged conversations with Maria can change the outcome of the story. During the game, occasionally read the letter and examine Mary’s photo. Make sure you listen to the entire conversation during the hallway leading to the last boss.
- “Maria” – In this ending, your interactions with Maria should be of a more friendly and attentive nature. Spend plenty of time with her and encourage her to talk to you, but avoid hurting her feelings. Unlike the “Leave” ending, here you shouldn’t read the letter or look at Mary’s photo. It’s also important that you don’t hear all the conversation in the hallway leading to the last boss.
- “Rebirth” – To unlock this ending, you need to have completed the game at least once and used the save slot from the previous playthrough. During the replay, collect four ceremonial items: White Chrism, Lost Memories Book, Obsidian Goblet, and Crimson Ceremony Book. These items are scattered throughout the game in the following locations:
- White Chrism: Found in the kitchen of apartment 105 at Blue Creek Apartment.
- Lost Memories Book: Can be found at the Texas Gas Station, in a newspaper machine, west of where the Steel Pipe is located.
- Obsidian Goblet: It is in the Silent Hill Historical Society, before the hole that leads to the long main hallway.
- Crimson Ceremony Book: It’s in the Evil Lake View Hotel, in the Reading Room, behind the headset you listen to.
- “Dog” – To unlock this surprising and humorous ending, you need to have watched the game’s three normal endings: In Water, Leave and Maria. Then start a new game and find the “Dog Key” item, which is in a small house west of Jack’s Inn. Return to Brookhaven Hospital and open the Observation Room on 3F. After that, just finish the game normally.
Each ending offers a different outcome, expanding the player’s experience by providing new perspectives on the story told.
