In this game, starring the famous Disney mascot, we will help Mickey recover a crystal stolen by a badass ghost. The story is told during the game, with cutscenes , usually shown after beating bosses. Mickey finds his lost friends throughout the levels, each one helping as much as they can, often offering items that grant Mickey new abilities.

This game is longer than Castle of Illusion; It has a map and it is even possible to go back through the stages to investigate passages that were previously impossible to reach or reach.

In relation to previous Mickey games, he (the game character itself) is still the same, but his sprite has had some changes, especially when he falls and when he is standing still. Another change is that Mickey can bend down when he is holding an object or box, something impossible in Castle of Illusion.

The stages in this game remain thematic, but without the extravagance of the previous game. We still have levels in castles, forests and a toy factory, as well as Castle of Illusion. In addition to these, some cool levels such as a pyramid and a garden were included. In all of them, a key must be found for the exit door to appear.

Let’s get to know them and go through them one by one, from now on!

Walkthrough (complete guide) of Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse:

NOTE: This walkthrough is divided into two parts: first a guide explaining each of the game’s phases; and, in a second stage, a practical guide with a total focus on the stars or Power Stars.

FIRST PART – PHASE GUIDE

The stages, as I had already mentioned, are arranged on a map, which must be covered by Mickey, looking for help on how to reach that ghost, in his castle.

The first stage is a conversation with a girl (Margarida) who explains everything to Mickey. After that, we have the cliché-platform-games phase, the famous FOREST!

Phase 1 – Forest

Right at the beginning you will see that the level is full of spiders and webs, as well as snakes crawling everywhere. Right away, we see a new element: a mini tornado that makes Mickey spin in the air with a really cool effect. The second stage of the level takes place climbing a huge tree, where, in the end, we still have to throw an apple into a snake’s mouth…

Phase 2 – Lake

Another very cliché phase, but pay attention, as this phase hides some secrets later on. The lake, on this first PASS, is almost empty. Mickey even explores deeply, facing currents until he crosses to the other side. In addition to enemies, the mouse’s breathing (air level) needs to be controlled, as now it can drown…

Phase 3 – Blacksmith Castle

Cool and different phase. Mickey is in a castle, where naturally melee weapons are forged, that is: the place is hot, there is a lot of fire and a lot of nasty enemies. Right at the beginning, a little fire will appear, which will continue chasing Mickey throughout the level, until he reaches the first door.

The second part of the stage consists of jumping over a lava lake, including dragons flying around.

The boss, of course, is another dragon, but it’s bigger and more MOBILE than the Dragon from Castle of Illusion. By killing the dragon, you will save Horacio, who, in addition to giving him a flute that has the same function as START+SELECT in Super Mario World, on the Super Nintendo, reveals that the dragon was preventing the water from going down and the lake was drying up because of that.

Conclusion: the lake is now fuller and Mickey must return there to be able to follow the path underneath, reaching the Ghost Castle (Phase 4)…

Phase 4 – Ghost Castle

This is something that could be more common in the game: stages with multiple exits that result in more paths across the map.

Well, this new castle is pretty crazy, sometimes everything goes dark out of nowhere and only lights up when Mickey takes out a lamp. Ghosts, flying pumpkins and other things roam the entire level. In one stage, you have to build a bridge between spikes by aligning blocks, in another, the screen moves by itself according to the buttons that Mickey presses. It’s a long and very interesting phase.

Your reward for destroying the funny ghost is a potion that makes Mickey shrink, essential in the next stage, the Tiny Cave (Phase 5)…

Phase 5 – The Tiny Cave

To use the item, simply press down + button 2. Mickey becomes tiny and can now get into tight spaces in the scene.

The entire phase takes place in a kind of worm path, with spiders, pillbugs and other insects along the way. The level has no boss, but it hides secrets…

Phase 6 – Rose Garden

This phase is very “cafe au lait”, very “colorful”, but very different from what was seen at the time: a straight garden, with few challenges, other than a sea of carnivorous plants through which Mickey needs to walk on a petal. Other than that, there’s nothing else here, but it’s a very different and cool phase.

Phase 7 – Toy Factory

Bigger than the one in Castle of Illusion, this factory is full of doors and annoying enemies. Right away, we have some small cannons firing non-stop and a descent into swirling water. The level extends to a piano where the notes come to life in a similar way to the piano in Castle of Illusion. Here we have a boss: a deck of cards that rotates around the stage, a bit annoying to defeat.

When KILLING him, Goofy appears and clears the way to the temple at the top of the map, firing a cannon and destroying the stones along the way. He even talks about a rope to get to the Sand Castle.

Phase 8 – Temple

The level is long and one of the most difficult, with blocks that come to life and some little faces on the walls that they shoot. At first, amidst the ruins, a few owls can be troublesome. The real problem with these LIVING blocks is that, when you hit them, they stop and Mickey must use them for something, be it opening passage or hitting enemies.

The level ends in a descent where Mickey’s tail will be put to the test: spikes follow the mouse everywhere, ending up in the boss’s ARENA.

The stone ball isn’t difficult, just hit the blocks and use them on the boss when you have time. Winning, Mickey gets the rope, which allows him to climb walls (just touch the wall for the mouse to take the climbing position).

At this time it’s a good idea to take a walk through the old levels and use the rope to find some passages and, most importantly, STARS.

Phase 9 – Mountain

The mountain phase is simple: it involves an initial climb and, shortly after, a small cave where the level goes up and down. Guide yourself by the lamps attached to the ceiling of the level, using the potion that reduces Mickey here is great. The third stage has more climbing, just be careful with the vultures in the stage.

Phase 10 – Desert

The desert itself isn’t difficult, the only damn thing is the fdp vulture that keeps flying around trying to hit the poor mouse. In the middle of the level there is a pyramid, the entrance to it is through a small door, behind a small block. You have to be a dwarf to be able to enter.

If you pass straight, you can pass the level fine, but in the pyramid there is a boss who hides the magic shoes that allow Mickey to walk on the clouds. That’s why it’s mandatory to enter the pyramid.

Phase 10-1 – Pyramid

The pyramid is a bit complicated if you are a first-time Land of Illusion player. The beginning comes with everything with the famous TELA-PEGA, this time with thorns in the corner, forcing the player to run to climb and avoid thorns along the way.

Then, a platform that is controlled according to the direction Mickey is looking can take some work. The key is initially surrounded, but once you get to the bottom, it becomes easy to get to. Take advantage and collect another key and use it to get a star on the left.

The boss is a snake that wanders around inside the egg. First, you need to make the egg hit the walls of the place until the snake sticks its HEAD out: hitting it twice, it comes out of the egg and starts to beat it.

She keeps burying herself in the sand without stopping: the objective now is to hit her with butts every time the damn thing’s eyes appear. After getting it right, she leaves and it’s time for more ass. Repeating this, she gives up and gives the magic shoes to Mickey.

Phase 11 – Princess Castle

Right away the key is there, but the exit is fenced and you have to go through the entire castle to find it. The beginning already shows what the castle has in store: spike pits, springs, some pumpkins to serve as platforms for Mickey and some ghosts.

The trick here is to become tiny and use Mickey’s butt on a pumpkin that moves to the right: as Mickey is small, he doesn’t kill the pumpkin, making it possible to butt it until he reaches the end of the corridor. There, two doors wait: the top one takes Mickey to a corridor full of FATAL purple acid, where those rotating platforms are the only method of passage. At the end of this, a STAR awaits.

Going through the bottom door, the level becomes easier, but there is no star. Third stage of the stage: climbing, where you need to use the blocks to reach the highest places. Then, a nasty corridor full of thorns, where the best thing to do is to stay tiny and tear through the thorns that go up and down. In the end, the descent to the exit door, with no boss to bother you.

The princess has great bad taste in castles, but she gave me some magic beans to plant on an island, close to the castle. But before that comes the Sand Castle (Phase 12).

Phase 12 – The Sand Castle

Castelão LONG, BORING, DAMN, but with MEMORABLE music. As Iyasu once said: “THE MUSIC IS SO GOOD THAT IT TRANSCENDS THE CARTRIDGE…”. This fits here easily.

The beginning of the level is simple, with few jumps, some nasty enemies and some places FULL of sand (don’t tell?). The second stage is in the water and involves buttons, lazy fish, thorns everywhere and famous rats dead from lack of air, if you know what I mean…

The important thing here is not to neglect Mickey’s air level, as there are points in the middle of the route where he can stop to breathe. Leaving the lake, use your rope and climb the wall to get another star for your collection.

The boss is a crab that makes whirlpools in the water, in other words: be careful with the mouse’s air.

To hit him, wait for him to release about 2 whirlwinds and use the barrel on his FACE when he stops.

Repeating, King Donald will be saved and given a boat to get to the island where the beanstalk will be planted.

Phase 13 – Beanstalk

The level is very short and very simple: use the whirlpools to reach the stairs and go up slowly, being careful with the spiders and snakes that are along the way.

Phase 14 – Ghost Castle

This castle is a total mess of inverted parts, keys and buttons. It’s very rare that you don’t get lost here, so I’m going to give a general explanation at this stage for first-timers. We have three doors at the entrance: I always go to the first one, as I find it easier.

The others involve instant deaths in lakes of acid, while the first just requires more agility in control, as we have a WALL that moves on the left side (SCREEN-HANDLE style) that Mickey needs to keep climbing and dodging the dangers that come, from enemies to spikes or other walls that can crush you.

Things are now a bit reversed: at the beginning, the important thing is to activate the button and go straight, to the door, activate ANOTHER button, get the key, open the wall, get another key and fall into the water (which used to be acid). UFA!

When you fall into the water, you will see that everything is reversed once again! Your objective: the door at the TOP on the right side. To do this, use the key on the wall, go left, headbutt the button on the ceiling and go all the way back, entering that door.

Now a little demon door jumps out after Mickey, take it to the end of the screen (on the right), hit it and enter it. Step on the button and go left right there.

The NORMAL door (without being half invisible) is the correct one.

After that, there’s just a little lake to go down and we’re facing this GHOST, who is actually a witch like Mizrabel from Castle of Illusion on the Mega Drive.

Final Boss

Its attacks vary into three:

First, fireballs, which are easy to dodge. Each time she stops, quickly land a butt before she raises her arms. Each hit makes it spin again, like a tornado, ending up randomly on the stage.

Second: it goes to the roof of the ARENA and keeps spinning, when it stops, blocks will fall and one of them will be used for Mickey to pick up and hit the damn thing.

Third: she turns into a ball and jumps across the stage. After getting tired of jumping, it’s time for Mickey to hit the naughty girl with a butt, before she releases 2 lightning bolts around herself. 3 butts and it becomes history.

After finishing, don’t press anything and wait for the credits. At the end, a small screen appears showing how many stars you managed to collect. There are 14 in total and I never managed to find them all…

Anyway, those are all the stages of Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse .

SECOND PART – PRACTICAL GUIDE TO STARS (POWER STARS)

In total there are 14 of them, spread 1 in each stage of the map. To this end, the strategy will simply indicate the place of each of them, with some stars depending on special items to be reached. So, there’s nothing more practical than taking a quick look at the game, picking up the special items and then returning to the locations to get what’s missing.

And what happens when you collect them all at the end of the game? Simple, you earn  1 million points  for winning, which means a lot if you’re trying to beat a score in the game. Anyway, let’s sail the boat!

If you have any questions about progressing through the game or how to get past a certain part, I recommend checking out the introduction link, there I wrote a complete walkthrough of the game.

Power Star #1 – Blacksmith’s Castle Stage

The first of them is in the  Blacksmith’s Castle Stage , right after the first screen. Simply use the spring to reach the other side of the wall and collect the star.

Power Star #2 – Toy Workshop Stage

The second Power Star is a few levels away, in the toy factory. Follow the normal path and, after the piano, enter the semi-transparent door. Go right, jumping between the spikes, use the yo-yo and step on the final button, opening the way to the star.

Power Star #3 – Desert Stage

The third Power Star obtained through normal means is in the desert. At this point, you’ll already have the rope, so getting through the pyramid stage won’t be a problem. At the very end of it, right after throwing the key at the barrier, go back, climb up and get another key. Near the exit door, place the key on the floor so that you can climb onto the platform close to the ceiling. There is a ticket there that takes you to Power Star.

Power Star #4 – Forest Stage

With the main powers in hand (the shrinking potion, the rope for climbing and the shoes for walking in the clouds), we go after what was left behind (lol). Fourth Power Star, within the first phase. Cross the forest normally until you reach the second part, the giant tree. Climb up to the second screen and enter the trunk. Climb the wall there and grab the Power Star at the top.

Power Star #5 – Lake Stage

In the lake level there is a well-hidden Power Star. After solving the Blacksmith’s Castle level, the lake will have a higher water level. Go to the deep part, where there are currents and vines to grab and, in the second hole in the ceiling, swim up and get the star.

Power Star #6  – Castle Ruins Stage

At the ghost castle, go forward until the part where you had to go down to continue. Climb up using the rope and collect the sixth star at the top of the level.

Power Star #7 – Tiny Cavern Stage

In the level with one of the best songs in the game, follow it to the end and climb the wall next to the exit door. The star will be up there waiting for you.

Power Star #8 – Flower Field Stage

In the flower field, the Power Star is in the highest rose of the level, which is right after the carnivorous plants, at the beginning of the level. To achieve it, a certain amount of patience and skill will be required. Climb the flowers right after the second wave of carnivorous plants and notice that a butterfly will come towards you (the screen goes up in this part). Stay miniature and keep hitting the butterfly, crossing the entire screen until you reach the star. As Mickey is miniature, the butterfly won’t die and will take you there, but be careful not to fall or you’ll have to repeat everything again…

Power Star #9 – Palace Ruins Stage

Simple and quick: go to the screen above the initial one and, near where there is a bouncing stone, go up the stairs. Climb the wall there and get the Power Star. Right there there is a passage on the right, just make yourself tiny and go there to get some items and cut out a good part of the level.

Power Star #10 – Craggy Cliff Stage

At the very beginning, climb the first wall and watch the vulture flying. Jump, punch him and reach the Power Star to the left, on two rocks.

Power Star #11 – Good Princess’s Castle

This is one of the most difficult stars to catch, as any mistake in jumping is certain death. Go straight through the castle until you find two doors: enter the top one and follow the rotating platforms until you reach the star. If you fall into the purple liquid, it is instant death.

Power Star #12 – Sand Castle Stage

The phase is huge and the star is in the second stage of it. Right after crossing the huge lake, as soon as you get out of it, notice that there are some sand stones that will be used for Mickey to climb up there. Ignore them and climb the left wall. At the top, jump on the rocks and get the Power Star at the end.

Power Star #13 – Island Stage

After planting the beanstalk, climb to the top, where the exit door is. From there, head left and fall from the cloud.

Power Star #FINAL – Phantom’s Castle Stage

At the entrance there are 3 doors. Take the last one and follow it. The path is very difficult, with platforms that alternate over a river of fatal lava. Take your time jumping and collect the game’s last Power Star at the top of the screen and earn an extra life for your achievement.

Once finished, here’s the 1 million point bonus, in addition to my score during the game.

I hope everyone enjoyed it and that you try to get everything in the game too! To the next!
