Mortal Shell – Platinum Guide

Mortal Shell – Platinum Guide

February 4, 2024 Off By Gabriel Capuani

Life is suffering

Difficulty: 6/10
Time: 15-20 hours
Trophies: 26
Missable: 5 – Seeker of False Truths, Bars Tended, Face Off, Life is Suffering, The Nihilist
Minimum plays: 1 minimum but 2 is recommended

A simple and enjoyable platinum to make and a respectful souls-like to have on your ID. The only difficulty is due precisely to the game and not to the challenges proposed by the trophies. Platinum is limited to collectibles (missable), specific trophies (very easy) and beating the game again. The trophies are self-descriptive, the most I will do is give some tips.

Even though platinum is easy, I advise doing the trophies in the order I describe them, as I organized them in a way that parallels the campaign progression. This way it’s cooler, faster and easier to win the platinum trophy.

ATTENTION! First of all, keep in mind NOT to kill the boss of the Throne of Infinity (that giant peculiar area made up of obsidian blocks).

Like the other guides, I will not emphasize the trophies that are necessarily earned, as there is no need, so I will just mention them.

TIPS NOBODY TELLS YOU:

  • To upgrade weapons or housing, simply press and hold the X button.
  • You have to discover the names of all the carcasses to be able to use the “Ephiges” items.
  • Invest your money in all of a carcass’ abilities to unlock Fast Travel.
  • Fast Travel will become available after purchasing all of a shell’s abilities. Once you do this, Sister Genessa will ask if she wants to trade, select “yes” and purchase the “Ornate Mask” item. Use this mask to be able to travel anywhere on the map.
  • Vlas’s Shop is a little hidden in Fallgrim’s Tower.
  • Always have solidification or stamina available. If you don’t have both, you could lose a lot of life.
  • NG+ starts when you select “Yes” after the fight against O Liberto.
  • I found the entire map very confusing, looking like a maze, so don’t get frustrated if you get lost.

Bring the Glands Back to Me, Crossed the Thresolh, Faded the fire, Felled the Glandfather, Matryr’s the Martyr, Tragic Loss

COLLECTIBLES – MISSABLE!

Bars Tended – Gain familiarity with all items.

ATTENTION! Only 4 items can be MISSABLE: Baguette, Scripture of Despair, Scripture of Disdain and Mango. They become missable only after defeating the boss Crucix, the Two-Born located in the Throne of Infinity. So look at your location to pick it up as soon as possible.

If you lost any items, you don’t need to get them all again, just the ones that are missing. As a New Game + starts after the last fight, just go to the Throne of Infinity and collect the missing ones.

TIP 1: If you didn’t find the items needed to get familiarity, you can get them in NG+ in the same place where you found them for the first time.

TIP 2: The Carcass Solomon, the Scholar who has an ability called “Additional Prediction” that allows you to familiarize yourself with items more quickly.

You have to use the items until the familiarity bar is at maximum. To find out the familiarity level of a given item, just go to the inventory and “pause”.

Almost all items are picked up naturally during normal exploration, so only worry about the missable ones that are harder to find. But follow this video to help: Baguette, Scripture of despair, Scripture of Disdain and Mango.

Seeker of False Truths – Unlock all secret Lore

The collectibles are 19 inscriptions and 17 engravings. Being: Fallgrim: 10, Sanctuary of Ashes: 2, Crypt of Martyrs: 2, Throne of Infinity: 3.

Inscriptions are visible and engravings are invisible. They will only appear when you attack the location, then read on.

ATTENTION! The Infinity Throne engravings are missable as are four items IF you defeat the boss in this area! Fight him only after securing these engravings. The Throne of Infinity is that area where several large blocks appear, so the right thing to do is to collect these engravings as quickly as possible.

As there are many collectibles and they are very hidden, follow the video to find your way around:

SPECIFIC TROPHIES

I highly recommend following the trophies in this respective order. I did it this way on purpose to do it as I progressed through the campaign. You will do these first 4 throughout the game. I put it this way so you can keep these trophies in mind and anticipate them, because if you leave them until the last minute, it could get boring and tiring.

You seem different… – Find all the carcasses

They are easily found when exploring the game.

Fun Guy – Collect 50 mushrooms

Untarnished – Parry 100 attacks

To do the famous “parry” just press L1 when the enemy attacks, you don’t need to be determined and you don’t need to attack. It is only possible to parry after the giant Old Prisoner gives you the “Stained Seal” item at the beginning of the game.

Sugar Baby – Spend 50,000 Tar at Vlass’s shop

The best area to “farm” is in the Dark Gate in Throne of Infinity, as there are two enemies that give a lot of Tar. The strategy is to kill them and then drink the divine Tar to reset the enemies. It is recommended to use the item “Bronze Bell”, as it grants a 10% Tar Found bonus and can be purchased from Vlas’ shop.

Face off – Defeat Harden in the tutorial

This is the first boss that appears, the game’s intention is to make you lose the fight, but for the trophy you have to win. The strategy for this is as follows: press R2/RT to give a strong attack, but DURING the attack you need to petrify. He will attack you and when he hits you you will be slightly stunned, your petrification will be undone and the strong attack will hit you. Little by little victory will come. If you die, just start a new game again.

Fresh and Instict – Find your first carcass

Step goal – Kill an enemy using a bear trap

After the tutorial, notice that, when exploring the scenarios, there are traps on the floor that when you walk over them are activated, trapping the person by the foot. For this trophy you need to take some life from the enemy and induce him to come towards you while there is a trap in the middle.

The Good Time are Killing Me – Playing a lute

You need to play the lute close to an enemy who is also playing. Right in the forest at the beginning, you will find many camps, in one of them you will find a chest and when you open it you will get a lute. NOTE: Use the lute 10 times to gain an item and get “Bars Tended”.

Brigand Life – Waste your life with Baghead

Baghead is an NPC that is somewhat hidden in Fallgrim. He has the appearance of an enemy, but he doesn’t attack. Just talk to him (with a little exploration you can find him). He asks for a toasted Rat and a high quality Brandy that you need to give to him. In the third dialogue he asks to remain calm for eternity, accept. This is a secret alternate ending.

Is this Sparta? – Kill an enemy by kicking them from another platform

You need to acquire the “Force Recall” skill and look for an enemy that is on the edge of a high place and use the skill by pressing square.

Its a me – Kill an enemy using the knowledge recall skill

It is necessary to acquire the skill “Knowledge Recall”. Just go to the edge of a high place and there should be an enemy below, fall on top of the enemy using the skill by pressing L2.

Purrfect – Pet Vlas’s cat

Simply press the button to pet the cat next to Vlas.

Differents kind of Grisha – Defeat all different races of Grisha in the game

Grisha is a mini boss that appears in certain areas. There are 3 different races, but for this trophy, you need to kill two different races, although they are almost the same. You will come across one, almost necessarily, on the way to Sanctuary of Ashes and the other version you will find on the way back when the fog appears. And the other Grisha is in the Crypt of Martyrs. This trophy should come naturally.

Nailed it – Kill two or more enemies with one shot from the Ballistazuca.

The Ballistazuca is a weapon that is obtained by purchasing it from Vlass’s store. It is called “Tools” which costs 8000 Tar and then repair it on the workbench.

Faded the fire – Defeat Imrod, The Name

Martyr’s the Martyr – Defeat Tarsus, The First Martyr

Tragic Loss – Defeat Crucix, The Two-Born

Bring the Gland Back to Me – Bring the glands to the Dark Father

This is gained in the story by killing any of the first three bosses. Take the glands from the defeated boss that appears next to the chalice that starts the fight and take them to the Old Prisoner who requested them in the Fallgrim tower.

Felled the Glandfather – Defeat the Unchained

Crossed the Threshold – Reset Mortal Shell

NEW GAME

After beating the game for the first time and obtaining the other trophies, you can start the last ones.

TIP: Don’t start on NG+, as the enemies will be very strong. Start a new game.

These three are related, but the focus will be on Forever Alone, because if you do it, the others will follow. As soon as you exit the tutorial do “The Nihilist”.

The Nihilist – Renouncing humanity

Go to an Altar and renounce the human form to remain in obsidian form.

Altar Location: When leaving the tutorial tunnel, turn right (don’t pick up the carcass!) until a Fallgrim cutscene plays. Turn right down the river and take the first left. Go straight ahead and into the river, turn right and then left. Then take the first right and enter a tunnel. It is close to Cabeça de Saco.

The only difference between being carcassless and the obsidian form is that, in the latter, there is no way to get into a carcass, even if you try. Both forms die in one attack.

Life is Suffering – Beat the game in obsidian form

Forever Alone – Beat the game without using any shells

This is the hardest. Because if you don’t use the carcass, the protagonist dies with any attack. You can get this trophy in the race by creating your own strategies and using the player’s skills to finish the game. Or make a “glitch” that will help a lot. This glitch consists of duplicating all the items you need to improve the Sword, which means causing more damage.

Explanation of the glitch (works for PS4 and PS5):

  1. Talking to Sister Genessa for the first time.
  2. Get the “Mechanical Spear” from a chest located where Grisha is and enter the tunnel on the right.
  3. Pick up “Ornamented Badge” (on top of a box) and “Tar Nascente” (hidden by branches) which are located in the camp ahead.
  4. Go all the way down and get another “Ornamented Badge” (hidden by branches).
  5. Return to Sister, may die. And challenge your shape.
  6. With the items in hand, exit to the main menu.
  7. Go to “Load Game” and note the date and time of this save.
  8. Close the game.
  9. Go to “Settings”.
  10. Go to “Storages”.
  11. Go to “Saved data”.
  12. Press “Options” in Mortal Shell and select the data written “Map state” below and the same date and time of the save that I asked you to write down. And delete this file.
  13. Open the game and select “Continue”.
  14. If everything goes well, the same phrase that appears when the game starts will appear.
  15. Open the same chest where you got the mechanical spear, however when you open it you will find the item “Tempering Acid”.
  16. Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5.
  17. Repeat the entire process five times to have five “Quenching Acid”.
  18. Use the Ornate Badge 10 times to reveal its function.
  19. Use the Tar and buy 3 Golden Bells from Vlas’ shop.
  20. Buy “Forbidden Offering” from a merchant on the way to the Throne of Infinity, before entering this area, continue to the left until you find her and buy the item.
  21. And improve everything you can in the Holy Sword.

After making your sword stronger and having the Ornate Insignias this mode will become easier. The Mechanical Lance serves to make enemies dizzy, giving them more time to attack. Tempering Acid serves to maximize the strength of the sword. The rising Tar is used to buy the Golden Bells. The ornate insignia serves to withstand more attack after receiving an attack while solidified. The Forbidden Offering serves to gain determination faster when attacking. The Golden Bell serves to gain determination faster and make the move.

ATTENTION! Make a backup of your save before the fight against O Liberto so you don’t waste items for nothing, just in case.

TIP: Use the Mechanical Spear whenever possible against The Freedman.

Good luck 😀
